TOEFL

Test of English as a Foreign Language or TOEFL is the most often used examination in the administration process to enter the colleges and universities in the United Strates. You must be able to understand enough English to make good grades in competition with native English-speaking students. This is what TOEFL tests and this is why schools consider TOEFL as a valuable examination. Score for these examinations are sent to test taker and to any colleges or universities to which the students are applying. Any school in the United States that requires TOEFL for admission will accept the score for either these administrations.
But, these schools often do not consider the TOEFL score as the only criterion for enter the colleges.

They may also consider the student’s grades in schools which he or she previously attended and therecords from any intensive English program in which the student was enrolled. All this denpends on the school’s administration criteria. The score which is acceptable to a given school also depends on the regulations for that particular school. Some schools require 450, some 500, some 550, or even 600.
If you find that a school requires no TOEFL score, or a very low score, it is probably that the school doesn’t have extensive experience with foreign students, and you may find that it would be better to attend a different school.
There are four sections on the TOEFL. Listening Comprehension, Grammar Structure and Written Expressions, Reading Comprehension, and Writing section.

Section one is listening comprehension is single sentences for which you must choose another sentences in the test book which means most nearly the same as the sentences that you hear. Or you will hear the short conversations between two people, after the conversations they will ask you about what was said. The listening comprehension section is always firsat in the examination. It will take about 30 to 35 minutes contains 50 questions.
Section two is structure and written expression is multiple choice answers to complete sentences, you must choose the best way to complete the sentence in formal written English. The sentences have four words or phrases underlined, you must choose the one underlined part that is incorrect in formal written English.

Section three is reading comprehension, there is vocabulary which means you must choose the one word or phrase among four choices which means most nearly the same as the underlined word or phrase in each sentence. And reading comprehension you must read selections in the test book and answer questions based on what is stated or implied in the readings. You must be able to read a selection containing rather complicated constructions and vocabulary and answer questions based on what you have read. This section tests your ability to understand and analyze reading passages on a variety of topics.

Section four is writing section, if you take the TOEFL at an administration where the writing test is offered, you must take that portion of the test either. The writing test is scored by two separate readers on a scale of 1 to 6, with 1 being the poorest score and 6 being the best. If the scores given by the two readers differ by more than one point, a third reader also reviews the paper. The scores are based on the essay, such as vocabulary, grammar, use of examples, and organization are not scored separately. The score is reported as a separate number on the TOEFL score report.
The TOEFL Bulletin indicates that during the writing test, students will have the opportunity to write an essay of 200 to 300 words in 30 minutes. You must be able to organize and write an effective essay, using correct grammar and spelling.
